Whats Our Why

A few years ago, my brother was going through a tough divorce. It reminded me of when our parents split up years earlier — money was tight, the future was uncertain, and even as young adults, my siblings and I didn’t have the tools to handle challenges like losing a home.

At the time, I had just bought my first place — a small, fixer-upper condo — and my brother had recently purchased his own home. When his marriage ended, his house was suddenly at risk. I wanted to help him keep it, so I formed an LLC called Hero’s Guild Real Estate & Property Management, inspired by a video game we loved as kids where the hero traveled from town to town helping people solve problems.

The loan I hoped for didn’t come through, but my brother managed to keep his home on his own. That left me with a brand-new business and no clear plan for it… until opportunity knocked.

Not long after, the condo association where I lived lost its property manager. Our building wasn’t glamorous, and it certainly wasn’t a big money-maker — the kind of property most management companies pass on. But the other owners were stressed and unsure what to do. Backed with 15 years of construction experience, I volunteered to step in.

Five years later, I still manage that same property, even though I’ve moved on and the list of properties has kept growing. That experience taught me that property management is more than just collecting rent and arranging repairs — it’s about stepping in when others won’t, finding solutions in tough situations, and making sure people have the peace of mind that their property is in good hands.
